CLUBS SPONSORED BY THE LIBRARY
BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB
St. Athanasius offers students a chance to join the Birthday Book Club. At the beginning of the year you will receive a notice offering an opportunity to join this club. At that time, you may join by sending in $10.00 per child joining. Once your child is a member, he/she will be called to the library on or near his/her birthday to select a book from a special assortment. If your child's birthday is during the summer, he/she will come on his/her half-birthday to select a book. A book plate with his/her name on it will be attached to the book which will then be placed in circulation in our library. Most children's books cost between $15 and $25. St. Athanasius subsidizes the difference. This is a great way to celebrate your child and show the importance of reading.
READING BOOK CLUBS
The Intermediate Book Club (grades 3-5) and the Middle School Book Club (grades 6-8) will be meeting in the Spanish room this year. Each club will meet once a month with meetings dismissing by 3:30 p.m. Parents should park in the back of the building as students will be dismissed from the back exit near the second grade room. The meeting dates and books to be read can be found on the library website. Order forms and permission slips should be gotten from the librarian. Books may be obtained from any library, borrowed, or purchased.
BOOK BUDDIES CLUB
Book Buddies is a program in which older students (gr. 3-8) meet younger students (gr. Pre-K-2) right after school on Wednesdays to read to them. It is an effort to promote reading enjoyment and increase student literacy.
The meetings should not last longer than 3:15 p.m. Parents should be in the back parking lot between the gym and the ball field to pick up their club members no later than 3:15 p.m. Students in gr. 1-2 will be read to in the Fall. Students in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will be read to in the winter.
Readerobics combines reading a picture book with a corresponding physical activity. We normally have 3-4 sessions of 3 weeks each. Students in grades 2-3 may sign up for 1 or 2 sessions each school year.
