Kindergarten Curriculum

Admission Policy:

St. Athanasius School offers a full-day Kindergarten program. The policy regarding minimum admission for the program is as follows: The proposed student should be five (5) years of age on or before August 1st of the school year for which he/she is seeking admission.

Special Topics:

Math: Calendar, addition, subtraction, patterns, money, direction words, time, sequencing, numbers, number words, shapes, and colors, place value, measurement.

Language Arts: Reading, sounds, correct way to form letters, sight words, comprehension, opposites, rhyming, creative writing, prediction.

Religion: Feelings, Creation, Christmas, Easter, Jesus, Family, talents, love, kindness, and senses.

Science: Weather, animals, seasons, senses, plants, nutrition, teeth, environment and the water cycle.

Social Studies: Working together, classroom community, and our country, traditions/holidays, community helpers and safety, map skills.

Grading:

Based individual assessments, flashcards, pencil and paper and observations.

Discipline Policy:

Positive behavior is expected and always encouraged. The teachers utilize a “Light System”. Each student begins with a “green” light. If the light remains green, they receive a stamp. If it is green all week, the students get free time on Friday. A note would be sent home for “black” light.

Special Events:

Field trips, cultural activities, and classroom parties.
