Adult Education

Baptism Team
St. Athanasius offers five scheduled Baptism sessions for parents and godparents throughout the year.  Parents and godparents are all encouraged to attend sessions and we have information on how they can support each other in bringing up their child in the Catholic faith. Children’s Church
Children’s church provides the Liturgy of the Word during Sunday mass for children from preschool to grade 6. They are dismissed for the 11:30 mass only.  If interested, please contact Valerie Minter at 640-0376.

Formation Committee
This committee is concerned with the ongoing life long learning and religious formation of all parishioners from birth to adulthood. They provide a variety of opportunities for spiritual growth and parish renewal.  If interested, please contact Debbie Minton at dminton@staparish.com or 969-3332.

G.I.F.T. (Growing in Faith Together)
GIFT is a family-centered environment where adult’s and children’s groups study and reflect on the Sunday readings to break open a deeper understanding of the Gospel message.  If interested, please contact Mary Lynne Fritsch at mlfritsch@bellsouth.net or 239-0208.

Men of St. Athanasius
A gathering of Catholic men for the purpose of prayer, fellowship and learning.  This group meets monthly.  For more information please contact Gerry Hope at gbhcat@yahoo.com or 762-1786 (Home) or 544-0973 (Cell).

Mom’s Bible Study
A Wednesday morning women’s group that allows children to attend for a playdate.  The purpose is to watch videos and complete book studies on different Church/Bible topics.  If interested, please contact Angie Poole at angela@thepoolehall.com or 435-3483.

Parish Religious Education Preparation (PREP)
This program provides religious formation for K-8 children who attend public or private schools. Adults interested in sharing their faith experiences and participate in catechesis are encouraged to join this program.  Currently they meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:45 pm.  If interested, please contact Debbie Minton at dminton@staparish.com or 969-3332.

R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
The RCIA is a discernment process and a journey of faith for those seeking Baptism or full Communion into the Catholic faith. Parish members are encouraged to sponsor a candidate or catechumen, be part of the RCIA team, or support other activities associated with RCIA.  If interested, please contact Debbie Minton at dminton@staparish.com or 969-3332.

Vacation Bible School
VBS offers a week-long bible program for children during summer vacation. Your child will learn about Christ through stories, crafts, song, and social interaction.  If interested, please contact Debbie Minton at dminton@staparish.com or 969-3332.

SIS
Sisters in Spirit is a gathering of Catholic women for the purpose of Prayer, Fellowship and Learning.  If interested, please contact Angie Poole at angela@thepoolehall.com or 435-3483.

Life Giving Bread
An online bible study group available to people who are homebound or who do not want or have the time to make it to meetings.  With this group, people study and participate on their own time, with the goal of studying the Bible according to each week’s assigned study topic.  There is the option to post one’s prayer intentions, comments, and respond to other member’s comments on the groups private chat room.  The website is www.lifegivingbread.com.
